To effectively do anything, we need to know ourselves, what we want, what we value, what we believe we are capable of (as this will be less than we are capable of). Mindfulness covers a range of things, including, living in the moment and knowing that your thoughts are not you, they are just thoughts. Some are harmful, and some are helpful, but they are opinions, and, if we are truthful, are inaccurate most of the time. For this first step, we are concentrating on the body. Why the body? You can tell a lot about your emotions and health by knowing your body. Vodun priest candidates would have to wear white for a year. Getting it soiled, without realizing it, meaning you started all over again. It kept them mindful of their surroundings.
So, get comfortable. If you have a reason to skip any section, please feel free to do so.
We start with our feet. Scrunch the toes together, hold for a bit, relax them, and repeat.
Now we do the same with the calf muscles. Tighten them up, hold for a moment, relax, and repeat.
Now we move up to the top of our legs, the quadriceps muscles. Squeeze them tight, hold for a bit, relax, and repeat.
Squeeze those stomachs muscles, hold for a moment or two, relax them back, and repeat.
Now the shoulders hold a lot of our daily tensions, so they may already be tight. Tighten them, hold, relax, and repeat.
You may find other areas were tight already. You can feel that now that you have a relaxed state to compare it too. The more you do this, the easier it will be for you to recognize where there is tension in the body. Just don’t do it too many times, which could have its share of problems.
Come to the Eighth Moon Full Moon Ritual. This moon is about healing. It is about our connection to Mother Earth; to remember our ability to live and heal that has always been with us.
There are several core principles to doing healing and magic correctly. This isn’t about tools, spells, robes, or rituals. This is about the person doing the magic. The healer or the magician needs to know themselves. They need to have a handle on their thoughts and their desires. They have to understand precisely what they want, be able to express it in some way to send it out. A method we can employ to know ourselves is through understanding mindfulness. Join us as we start on a journey to understand ourselves.
